HEALTH FUND REBATES FOR YOGA SERVICES

HEALTH FUND REBATES FOR YOGA SERVICES

Yoga Alliance - International Australia provides information on, and on the availability of, schemes and services provided by third party. It is not responsible for the schemes or services, nor for the way in which such schemes or services may be operated and administered in practice. The information on this page are intended for RYTs and Yoga Students general information purposes only.

RYTs and Students Private Health Fund Rebates Information

Many health funds recognise the health benefits of yoga and now provide rebates for yoga classes. Every Yoga Alliance Australia RYT should encourage their students to contact their health fund provider to determine what is required to enable them to gain a rebate and what level of rebate they are eligible to receive.

Staying informed about private health fund rebates for yoga services will allow you to provide accurate information to your existing and prospective students/clients about opportunities to claim private health fund rebates for yoga services you provide.

*In setting forth “High Standards Yoga Training and Practice”, Yoga Alliance Australia satisfies the requirements of the Private Health Insurance (Accreditation) Rules (2008) Part 2 Section, read more here: www.comlaw.gov.au/details/f2008l02106

RYT what do you need to do to help your students claim?

*Generally most funds will only pay out on a series of classes, and not for one off or casual sessions. Most funds will require detailed receipting (itemised Tax Invoice) by the yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance Australia registered teacher membership no that includes the dates/classes that were attended, and usually members of the health funds are required to complete a Health Management/Living Well form from GP, Physiotherapist, Chiropractor, Occupational Therapist or Psychologist to be given to fund by student.

  1. Yoga students with Health Funds can receive rebates for yoga classes depending on their “extras package”. Ask your students to check with the health fund to see if their private health insurance policy is eligible for the rebate.

  2. Not all private health funds and private Health Insurance policies are eligible for Australian Government rebates. They are only available if the policy holder have a complying health insurance policy with a registered health fund or insurer. Ask your students to check with the health fund to see if their private health insurance policy is eligible for the rebate.

  3. Receipts are not automatic, therefore if students would like a receipt issued, they should advise their teacher before taking up yoga classes.

  4. Encourage your students to check out whether their health fund will give a rebate for Prenatal Yoga classes. Some work places will also pay towards the classes when provided with a receipt.

* Since each Health Fund has its own claiming process and benefit amounts, it is the responsibility of each student to check their level of cover.
